Imagine taking your brain to the gym - because this is literally what this technology allows you to do. In order to understand this you need to know a few simple facts about blood.
- There is over 100 km of veins, arteries and capillaries in the body
- Most humans have just 4-7 liters of blood travelling through this whole network
- Blood brings nutrients to different parts of the body
- Blood enables the body to repair itself.
The brain is a voracious user of blood supply (roughly 20% of the entire body supply is utilised). However where in the brain that blood supply goes will shape our experience significantly. As we mature we should be more able to use the front of the brain to think our actions through and make more informed, integrated decisions. The Prefrontal cortex (PFC) is the executive centre of the brain its tasks include:
- Task Switching
- Impulse Control
- Mood regulation
- Controls working memory
- Processes Language
How do you train it?
You place the HEG headband on your forehead and plug it into the computer. The headband bounces an infra-red light about an inch deep into your forehead and measures the amount of oxygenated blood (this is redder in comparison to deoxygenated blood). The software translate this in to a percentage, a graph and makes a video go forward when you increase this number. Through concentration on the number or video you can see moment by moment how well you are working out the brain. With practice clients can increase bloodflow up to 30% in the PFC and maintain this for over 10 minutes.
